I always watch movies with subtitles. I preffer it that way because English is not my first language. I can understand it and write it well, but the accents will make a hard job for me to understand certain things.

I prefer to watch movies with subtitles, as it helps to further my understanding of what’s occurring in the movie/tv show, especially if the characters are speaking in a way that is rather incomprehensible. Subtitles also aid me when I’m watching movies in other languages, specifically French, as I can learn new vocabulary and apply it to my daily use of the language. I think that if you’re able to focus on the movie and the subtitles simultaneously, you should use them.

I personally believe that watching movies with subtitles is the best way to go. Some argue that subtitles are very distracting and unnecessary. However, I’ve never experienced a movie with subtitles that were too vibrant or large enough to distract from the movie and get in the way of what plays on the screen. The text is always small and all the way at the bottom of the screen for the best movie-watching experience.

Subtitles are very much necessary if you would like to thoroughly understand and analyze any dialogue and the general plot of the movie. This is because important elements can often be missed and go unheard when subtitles can prevent this.

It is also convenient to watch with subtitles in situations where the environment you’re in is too loud and as a result, it is hard to hear the movie.

I had been used to watching movies with subtitles when I was a kid; hence, I couldn't catch up with my sisters when they watch some because they always prefer watching movies without it, to enhance their listening skills better. And so, I started doing the same for the same benefit.

I know it shouldn't be as big of a deal as it is, but subtitles are so distracting to me. Maybe I'm just a slow reader. I actively try to avoid movies in a different language though because I cant stay focused on reading for that long.

Watching movies with subtitles helps you to learn foreign languages. You are killing two birds with one stone. You watch your favorite movie and you get learn new words from it. Watching movies with subtitles is a powerful tool for practising listening. I am enthused about subtitles and I appreciate work of people who create them. Nevertheless, I also understand people who find subtitles slightly distracting.

I love watching movies with subtitles because of 3 reasons. First, I have a big family and they always makes a lot of noise which causes me not to hear the movie properly. Second reason, I love watching foreign movies and I am not really a multi-lingual and so, subtitles really help. Lastly, I want to support people who makes subtitles as they really work hard for others to make it easier to watch and understand the movie.

For the most part, I usually watch movies without subtitles. On occasion, I will watch a film with the subtitles on, but this is usually only when the film is in a language other than English. I am the type of person that cannot focus on multiple things at once. Because of this, when I watch a movie with subtitles, I will only read the subtitles and not even pay attention to the film.

I am Romanian and I have been learning English ever since I was in kindergarten but what really improved my English writing and speaking skills was the endless hours of TV shows with English subtitles on.

Like others here, sometimes my brain can’t process what the speaker just said, so subtitles make it easier to understand the movie. Or, if I am watching the movie with people who talk during it, I can still comprehend the movie even with the disruption. And they really don’t take up that much of the screen, so having subtitles doesn’t negatively affect my experience at all.

I agree with you. The only time I feel comfortable with having them on is if I'm watching anime. Another point I'd like to mention is the subtitle bar always seems to move all over the screen blocking scenes. Most of my family uses the when watching TV but it annoys me so much, especially when I'm really into the show and end up having to re-watch it because I missed too much. Not only that, half the time they don't even sync up with what is being said.

It depends on the movie/TV show. If I'm watching a movie that has a heavy accent or is in foreign language, then of course, I'll choose to have subtitles on. As for most of the other movies, it depends on the genre for the most part. If it's a movie where the plot is highly complex and most dialogues are either long or crucial to the story, then I'll choose to put the subtitles on. Otherwise, I'll probably keep them if I'm just watching a relaxing show.

I like watching movies with subtitles because, I get to watch foreign movies which I don't understand their language. Movies like Asian movies, japanese animations and many more. I understand the movies through english subtitles.
In my opinion movies with subtitles
help me to be able to watch and understand foreign movies.

When we watch a movie, the subtitle can be useful. Most of the time, I use English subtitles if the language of the movie comes from a different language. I like English. I want to learn more about English. When we watch English movie with English subtitle, there are many opportunities to improve our English.

I like it with subtitles just to make sure I heard something right when movies get super quiet at points for no reason.

I used to watch movies and liked it even without subtitles, especially if it’s an English movie. But as time goes by, and a lot of international movies are getting much attention and becoming popular, for example Korean dramas. If you don’t know how to speak or understand Korean language, like me, you’d be really needing a subtitle. So in conclusion, subtitles make our life a lot easier.

I find it truly depends on the movie. Although I personally prefer watching movies without subtitles, my husband needs subtitles while watching movies despite the language or type of movie. I use to find it very annoying. The subtitles get in the way. However after a while you get use to them and hardly notice. One must admit that at times the actors do not speak clearly for whatever reason and the subtitles help the audience understand what is being said. Having said that, at times if you read the line before it's said the scene loses its magic.

Subs all the way. Maybe it's because I grew up in a place where subtitling foreign films is the thing, but I don't understand why someone would choose dub over sub.
