I used to love drawing when I was younger. At one point, I even told my parents that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up, but they said artists don't make money. I do see how it is hard to find a well-paying job in that field, but I'm curious: what is the highest salary possible for an artist? For example, for a painter?

Most painter who find steady work can make $30,000+ a year. The average for highest paying salary for a year has been over $50,000. It's based off the type of work you do. If you chose to do mural for business or even individual households you could charge by the materials used and an hourly rate you would prefer. Most artists are independent contractor because it's easier to find clients opposed to working for someone else.
