With the release of the PS5 promo, it got me thinking about how much money and effort developers are putting into high-end graphics engines, and honestly I wonder if it's worth it. I'm probably showing my age here, but the jump from PS4 to PS5 (or even PS3 to PS4) didn't impress me as much as the jump from PS2 to PS3. All it seems to do is make games take longer to develop and eat into resources making games shorter and less interesting. In fairness, I'm talking about the AAA end of the industry rather than the indie scene. But since the AAA industry has transformed into a microtransaction and lootbox factory, I've been happy to basically stop buying AAA games since the PS3 era.
