It seems most employers are only keen on providing a good salary for their employees as motivation. But one wonders if it is motivating enough.

I personally don’t think that just a good salary is motivating enough to any employee. To me, my job, how passionate I am about it, my colleagues and my work environment would be as important as my salary.

Working in a situation which is quite positive would be more satisfying than working in a situation with a high salary and a terrible working environment.

Like baasil999 I also believe that it takes more than a good salary to motivate employees enough. Money does not make everyone happy. A good working environment is a necessity in order to make sure that employees are happy and working well. A love for the job also plays a key part in motivating an employee as I believe anyone who is passionate about their job will work better.

I seconded what bassil999 and Samantha is saying. I mean what's the point of a good salary if you are not happy at work? There are other factors that demotivate the employees such as bosses or managers who were controlling, colleagues who are backstabbers, long work hours with very little or no vacation days and so on.

Money does play a role in motivating employees because one can't be motivated if they struggle to pay their bills. But I think people might be more content with a livable salary if they get to do what they like and their workplace has a positive, friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

As the others previously stated, a good working environment is also a necessity for an employee. A small token of appreciation can do wonders and can keep the employees motivated.

My company doesn't provide anything but I came to know about a certain company which takes care of it's employees. My sister loves working there for the very same reason. She insists on staying there for the rest of her professional life. As for me, I can't wait for my probation period to end. I would love to change my company, at this point. So, a good working environment, security, fair appraisals and many other things, would keep employees motivated at all times.

The amount of remuneration will not be enough to make somebody truly happy. Though it can be a great contributing factor for an individual to steadfast to a certain job. Though if given a chance, choosing between a high paying salary with a job beyond my interest and something that I want to do with a low salary, perhaps I would choose the latter. Having a peace of mind is one of the most important things to consider when working.

A good salary can be a good motivator to employees. However, it cannot be the only way to motivate employees. Other factors such as a good working environment, commending employees for a job well done, can all go a long way in motivating employees. If for example, an employee has a good salary but he/she is not working in a conducive environment, then the likelihood of that employee leaving is very high.

From my opinion, a good salary is not enough as there are many important factors that determine the overall motivation of the employees and which cannot be bought with money. All these factors helps to maintain a balance in the work place and they include a good environment, recognition, development and progress. To achieve an ultimate motivation, one needs to achieve a good environment that includes honest communication, respect, support, understanding, compassion and healthy relationships between the employees and the managers. The managers also need to nurture skills and talents to help the employees advance their careers and prevent anything that may drain their careers. Once these aspects are met, they serve as a gateway to the ultimate employee motivation.

Salary is a factor, but it is not the only driver for motivation. In fact, I would argue that in many instances, money is not even an employee's primary motivation and for some of us, a good salary is simply not enough.

When it comes to measuring an employee's morale or motivation to excel, there are a lot of other factors that one must consider including:
    • The type and volume of work and management expectations
    • The culture and work environment
    • Opportunities for training, development and progression
    • Management or leadership styles, particularly as it relates to, the provision of support, and opportunities for two-way communications
Some people are motivated to excel simply because they are doing what they want to do (type of work). Others are motivated because they know that there is a high level of management trust in their work ethic and the quality of their outputs.

Some people are motivated because they have a compassionate and nurturing work environment. Some are driven by ambition and they are motivated if they are presented with opportunities for development and progression. Of course, psychology and the leadership style adopted are also critical factors. And it has been proven irrefutably time and time again that a manager who is a good leader, who listens to feedback and gives constructive direction; the manager who supports his or her team every step of the way, is a manager who can motivate his or her employee to perform.

Money is good, of course, but it is not enough. Many employees have chosen simpler jobs with smaller salaries and they have been motivated to perform better because of the above-mentioned intangible factors.

Money is a motivational aspect when it comes to boosting a better relationship between an employer and the employee. A better pay keeps the morale of an employee and provides a better platform for him or her to offer their services effectively. Cases such as those of corruption may be past tense when these employees get to be paid a good salary and more so at the right time.

A good salary could be motivating for some, but not all. Everybody is different and has different needs. For example, someone could prioritize having days off or shorter work days in order to spend time with their family. However, somebody else might prioritize having a fun work environment or having other perks beside salary, such as paid vacation, retirement benefits, or other perks.

So in conclusion, a good salary may or may not be a good motivator. If you want to find out what motivates your employees or whomever you can send out a poll or questioner to know what motivates them.

A good salary is not enough. Employees also want a nice working environment, recognition, appreciation and opportunities for new challenges.

It is tempting to say that good salary is enough for someone to stay in company, but it is not. Someone might consider it enough for a year tops, but other aspects are also important:

Is your job really far from your home? The traffic might be bothersome for you now, but after a while, it might become excruciating.
Are you working in a peaceful work environment? The toxic, gossiping workmate of yours might be stressing you out and giving false information about yourself to others
Are you improving with your skills at work? The mundanity of the job might make you stagnant and make you lackluster with your skills.

In short, location, work environment, career improvement and other things mentioned by others above are also needed for an individual to be fully motivated for a job.

A good salary has a great motivation for workers. They normally tend to work more once they earn better than other people working in the same field.

If you dont love what you do for a living it does not matter the salary you make. You had to have a passion for what you do for a living.

Employee motivation has now shifted from salary and stability to having a passion for the job and having a good working environment. Employees nowadays see a strong sense of self-worth in the workplace. As a result, businesses are now shifting their focus on employee well-being programs instead of implementing salary and position upgrades.
