Now, this might be a stupid question. I remember my mom always giving me hell if my computer was running during the storm. She thought it would for sure get struck by lightning and that it was very dangerous.

I don't believe I ever had my computer, or my phone, or any other electronic item struck by lightning during the storm. I don't think the danger is very real in this case, unless I'm out and about with a laptop among thunder. Still, to this day I catch myself rushing to unplug my electronics, whenever I hear a storm coming. What about you?

I would not recommend using electronic devices connected to the electrical ports specially when storming, you never know where the storm strikes or the voltage issues. better not to use than taking risk.
