Tea contains polyphenols, in particular catechins and epicatechins that were proved by lab and animal studies to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It was also proved that tea or coffee drinkers are at lower risk for diabetes and possibly cardiovascular disease. Tea, containing antioxidants, can help slow down aging and help your cells to regenerate and repair.

Studies have shown that the amino acid L-theanine found in the tea plant alters the attention networks in the brain and can have demonstrable effects on the brain waves. More simply, tea can help you relax and concentrate more fully on tasks. Tea lowers stress hormone levels. Black tea has been shown to reduce the effects of a stressful event. Participants in a study experienced a 20% drop in cortisol, a stress hormone, after drinking 4 cups of tea daily for one month. In addition, tea can cause a temporary increase in short term memory.

Tea can help lower cholesterol. A recent study in China has shown that the combination of a low-fat diet and tea produced on average a 16% drop in bad cholesterol over 12 weeks when compared to a control group simply on a low-fat diet. If you’re struggling to get your cholesterol under control, try adding tea to your diet to see if it helps. I have mentioned some of the health benefits of tea and I'm asking you: "Will you drink Tea?"

That is an informative and a really interesting read @waelmanz. Now I would like to shade more light on the health benefits of green tea.

    1.Fights Against Aging.

The antioxidants, especially those known as polyphenols, in green tea help protect the skin from harmful free radicals. In fact, polyphenols help fight against various signs of aging, promote longevity and treats skin diseases.

    2.Esophageal Cancer.

It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but is thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them.

    3.Bone Health.

Routine tea consumption, has been associated with decreasing the risk of osteoporotic fractures. It's thought that green tea helps diminish bone loss through antioxidants and anti-inflammatory activity. Additionally, tea's healthy-promoting properties are thought to suppress the breakdown of bone while increasing the amount and activity of bone building cells.

    4.Promotes Healthy Gums and Teeth.

Regularly drinking green tea reduces symptoms of periodontal disease, possibly due to the presence of catechin. Catechin reduces inflammation in the body, and therefore, interferes with the body's inflammatory response to periodontal bacteria. It's ability to control bacteria and lower the acidity of saliva and dental plaque makes it useful for preventing cavities and other indicators of poor oral health.

Hi. Wow some interesting facts guys,I don't drink as much green tea as I would like to but after doing some research on green tea it definitely has it's benefits. I think I should start drinking green tea more often.

Green tea is known to be one of the healthiest beverages on the planet. It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body. These include improved brain function, fat loss and a lower risk of cancer. Here is a list of some important compounds found in green tea: quercetin, linoleic acid, aginenin and trace amounts of minerals like magnesium, calcium, manganese, iron, chromium, copper, and zinc.

The main reason green tea is so healthy is because one of the chemicals in green tea is Catechins which are antioxidants that are said to help prevent cell damage. Do you guys drink green tea on a regular basis?

Research shows that, tea contain antioxidants which increase the body's ability to burn fat. The antioxidants in tea might help protection of various cancers including breast, colon, skin, lung, esophagus, stomach, liver, ovarian, prostate and oral cancers.

Tea helps fight free radicals which damage DNA as it is high in oxygen radical absorbance capacity. Though our bodies are designed to fight free radicals on their own, they are not 100 percent, therefore tea plays a major role.

Study have shown that, tea lowers risk of parkison disease which comes as a result of smoking, physical activity, age and body mass index.

Natural substances, called polyphenols, are found in both caffeinated and herbal teas. These substances are antioxidants, compounds that may help reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases.

During processing, some of the polyphenols in tea are destroyed. Thus, tea powders, decaffeinated teas and bottled tea drinks may not offer the same health benefits. Additionally, research suggests that green teas offer a greater antioxidant punch compared to most other varieties.

Tea drinkers may be helping to keep their hearts healthy. Some research has shown a reduced risk of heart disease in people who drink green or black tea regularly; although the findings have been mixed in terms of tea’s effect on lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.
