I've deactivated almost all of my social media accounts over the last 3 years. I've lost real life friendships over my decision not to be online, they say they can't keep in touch and it's too hard without social media. But are we not in the very beginning of social media? How is it so hard for today's society to function without social media? As a note, I do notice certain things I miss without social media. The marketplace/buying and selling component is something I haven't found a replacement for. If I need recommendations or suggestions for something, I can't rely on the community on my phone. But why is it that people feel I'm obligated to show off my home, my pets, my kids, my self? I don't need the outside validation that my life is good, and I certainly don't need outside sources telling me how I should live/better my life, when they bass their opinions on glimpses into my reality. So what is it for you that keeps you on or off social media?
