I think religion was our way to figure out the universe we live in. The advance of science now is what explains so much about the universe right now and that's why many people are turning away from religion and turning to science for answers about the big questions. religion brings war and destruction yet it can bring societies together in peace, It all depends on the people and the way they think about it. Science never does that because it's only tool to improves our life and make sense of the universe around us.

Looks like many people here are Christians. As for me, I am a Hindu and I like religious stuff a lot. I work in IT field but even so, I do wear traditional clothes, bindi and such. Some of my friends and colleagues asked me to follow the 'modern way' of the society. I refused them gently as my beliefs and my way of living, is my own.

Honestly, I do believe in god and sometimes, I doubt the same when I think about planets, stars and the universe. I visit temples regularly too. Now, many people don't have the time and patience these days and that might be the reason why they turn away from religion which has many restrictions. There is also a fact that, the religious wars are pointless. No matter what name you give, you shouldn't fight in the name of god.

Christians and Muslims both have different beliefs, this is a hindrance to marriage. The bible encourage Christians to marry people of same faith. Due to presence of many Militia groups in some Muslim nations, Christians have the fear of marrying Muslims, citing that Muslims have no mercy to life.

It is because of this culture that society has imposed on the youth, that "we believe in what we see and disbelieve in what we cannot see". We have a society where the only thing that matters is science and nothing else. If something does not agree with science, many of the youth see it as false. They fail, however, to realize that science is ever changing. Something that is true today in science may be false tomorrow. This is the greatest obstacle to overcome if we wish to bring the youth closer to religion.

I see what you are saying and I understand your point. No, not every kid raised on a healthy dose of "this is good, this is bad" will stick to their moral code growing up. BUT, if you have read the Bible, why are you an atheist? You say you loved "the taste" of a "family like neighborhood" and yet you did end up doing the opposite. My question is why. I am Catholic, more specifically a traditional latin mass Catholic. Therefore I do not use the King James Version, all it is is a less truthful version. Just a copy with only what people "want" to believe, not the whole truth. Jesus called a person who left the faith a "traitor", not trying to call you out. Hebrews 6:4-6, warns against falling away from the faith and those who do, cannot not be brought back to repentance because they are “crucifying the Son of God all over again.” My belief about why kids are leaving the faith is definitely a lack of morals in society, lack of proper training and formation of the faith, both at home and at church, and the normalization of things like gays, abortion, and issues like those.

I find this even a bit offensive, sorry. Are you a true Christian? A true Christian is not someone who would go against all they believe to
"kidnap, kill, or steal from you". Maybe you came from somewhere that made YOU misunderstand what and who a true Christian is. Also, true Christians are not afraid to mingle with people of other ideas and beliefs, otherwise that makes us hypocrites. Not all Muslims are peaceful just as not all Christians are true. There are always exceptions, never forget that. The presence of violent Muslims is no more an indictment of their religion than the existence of violent Christians. There are violent people in every demographic.

Okay so mostly in the thread I read here are all about the things that the Bible says not-to-do. Yes, there are so many laws and rules in the Bible that many young people can't follow. As a youth myself I strongly disagree to most of you that the Bible is full of lies etc. but rather the Bible is full of standards on how to live our life. God doesn't expect us to follow all of this accordingly because He knows that we are bounded to sin cause we do things that is sinful everyday. We lie, we cheat, we do bad things, thinks bad about others, and many other things that we DIDN'T KNOW that are sinful things. We always focus on the sex part or the sex life of a person while it is not the basis of our lives. SEX is only for the married people, If you truly believe and in God then you will heed His laws and warnings. It's just like in school, if you like and love the subject then you will follow all the guidelines that the teacher set and aim for something high because you love the subject, there is a difference on doing what you love and doing it just for the sake of pleasing others.

As a youth I see other young people turn their backs on religion is because they feel that they are being controlled by some churches but to be completely frank, religion and churches does't save you. It will still be your faith in the Lord and not by your church and your religion.

Well spoken. The reason why many youths are no longer religion affiliated is because Satan has succeeded in occupying this world with many things to distract youths from connecting with their God.

Satan know if he can get the youths then he has gotten the world.

People are now running after the things of this world such as women money and power.

The eyes of the youths have been blind folded against God.

There are many reasons why youths leave religion, One we have peer pressure which makes them want to be absorbed in the worldly system making them undermine religious practices.

Admiration to worldly progress is another cause whereby youths leave religion to get some levels of success and fame to get absorbed fully into the kind of worldly life they want.

The youth crave a sense of belonging and if they don't get it in the church, they will tend to stray. The Bible verse quoted by shaneckawilliams (Proverbs 22:6) tells us what needs to be done. The youth need to be trained and guided. Sound spiritual upbringing is the safest way to instill in the youth a sense of belonging within the christian community. This needs to be done consistently from an early age and all throughout life. Unfortunately this is not being done and that is why the youth are finding themselves seeking that sense of belonging elsewhere.

More than religion and God, everyone is looking for true and unconditional love these days. Is that so easy to find love? Now-a-days, education, career and many other high-minded competitions are driving the youngsters to stress and unfulfilled expectations. Everyone wants to have life with high status and a lot of money in bank balance.

So, where is the place for God and religion? Does religion really work? In my case, nothing worked. No religion, no God and at the time of need, I had to act like a helpless person. So, why doesn't God appear at the time of need? God is within you! You help yourself! You love yourself!

That's the secret! Many youngsters have realised that God exists within their own abilities. So, the religion, God and the Bible is all within them.

As a society we have grown open to a variety of people and more accepting. Religion is rigid and bias. It has refused to change with the times.

For me I tend to think that many youths are running because of
    1.The technology
    2.Lack of proper teachings
3.They are not incorporated in the service

I personally don't see this negatively. Young people are curious by nature. They ask question and they want to know a lot of things. But when they get no answers to their question they tend to stay far apart from it. So i think the reason is becasue they are not getting satisfaying answers to their questions.

One of the reasons why young people are moving away from religion is that they did not initially have a strong attachment to religion, which means that they are less likely to develop habits or associations that facilitate a return to a religious community.Increasingly, young people also have a non-religious partner, which can help them strengthen their vision of the secular world.

It seems very natural for youth to turn away from religion because of scientific advancement. But if we go deep down to this question we will find that there are many other reasons too one of the major reasons is that religion has failed to prove its importance. Today’s youth want logical reasoning because they don’t want to blindly follow the footmark of their older generation.

There are rare intellectual people in our society who are trying to fill the gap between religion and society. But unfortunately, the reach of this intellectual is limited and there are many other religious contractors who fulfill their greed by fooling people in the name of religion.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can try to explain how my husband and I both started in traditional Christian families, and grew up to have beliefs differing from both Christianity and each other's beliefs.
We both grew up active in our churches (his Presbyterian, mine Lutheran) from birth through our teens. For my husband, the questions he had and the holes in the bible he found were too much for him, and he left the church and is an atheist today.
My issue with Christianity was specific to death. I simply believe in reincarnation and multiple lives. I also don't believe that muder is an equivalent to saying 'Jesus Christ' when I stub my toe, not in my eyes or God's eyes.
It's basically a difference in details. Most religions overlap and intersect if people open their eyes enough to see past their own opinions.

I am currently a youth of today's time, and I have come to realize that young people are turning away from the Church. I understand why this may happen. Social media plays a big part in this. False beliefs and rumors are brought about, and people tend to believe it. Or, someone within the Church may make a bad choice that does not coincide with the church. The immediate thought after something like this occurs is that the Church itself is evil and it is spreading bad things in the world. The truth is, no one is perfect. Everyone makes bad decisions. Our job is to remember that God is the almighty, and he is perfect with no flaws. We should work every day to be just like him. But, we will still make mistakes, because we are not perfect. Because no one is perfect, sadly even people in the clergy make bad choices. But, it makes them no different than you and me, imperfect people. We have to look past this and remember that our main focus is to get to heaven with God and to be as perfect as we can. possibly get. We should not let the choices and actions of others hinder our path of life.
