Animation for Beginners

We have to admit that animation is pretty hard to learn and it requires patience. I really want to learn and pursue animation but I don't know where to start. I want to ask some folks here who already have an experienced. What important things should I remember and how long does it take to learn animation?. Should I go to animation school or a self taught is enough? Is it possible to learn by myself alone ?. I was just amazed by some artists who excellently doing animation and this is the reason why I got interested in learning it. Any tips you can advice from folks here?

 

My daughter is pursuing an online degree in art. I would recommend you go to school for it.
