To be depressed at times is human nature, but if the phase becomes prolonged and repetitive then it is better to sit down and start counting your blessings. And a small visit to these four places can help you to keep a good count of them.

1).GO TO A HOSPITAL: Just casually stroll through the corridor, enter a few rooms and you will experience loads of emotions in a single day. The pain and suffering of a diseased who is longing to lead a healthy life like yours, the worry and tiredness of their relatives who want to get back to the shelter of their house and the constant feeling of loss in terms of a loving person and money will no doubt make you feel blessed and free from all the miseries.

2).GO TO A ORPHANGE: You will be stunned to see the number of unhappy children who are desperately longing for love and care. Their life is miserable, eat frugally, dress badly and simply no one cares. Become a witness to their lives and you will soon realize how blessed you are to have loving parents. You will find your troubles negligible when compared to the sadness that prevails in the hearts of these innocent kids.

3).GO TO THE MARKET IN THE EVENING: What you will witness is loads of people struggling to earn so as to make their ends meet. A saga of constant battle they have to fight each day to feed themselves and their family. You will find yourself so blessed when you will understand the concern of a daily wage earner who, by the end of the day, is unsuccessful in earning enough to feed his entire family.

4).GO TO A REMOTE AREA OF YOUR COUNTRY: It is then you will realize the difference between the quality of life you “live in” and the quality of life they “survive with”. For them each day is a constant struggling for food, water and shelter. Still they are living, struggling and no doubt surviving the battle of their lives.
And then you will find yourself standing as a blessed soul. A bit of trouble in life is not worth lamenting at all. Just witness the true “miserable life” and you will start valuing your benefits which otherwise you were taking for granted.
On a general for all human beings life is more sad then happy but they still live and fight on a hope that tomorrow will be brighter.
So do not lose hope, do not stop dreaming. May be tomorrow is the day when luck and happiness have planned to knock your door.

Sadness and chronic depression are two different things. Being sad is temporary during hard times and disappears when things get better. Chronic depression is a mental AND physical disorder which is hard to control even with medications. Being miserable is a state of mind. I've seen poverty ridden families who have never been happier and I've seen wealthy millionaires who are the most miserable of all.

You are your own hero and your own enemy. Your mind controls how you think and feel. Sometimes prolonged depression can be hard to control as your mind is already used to it.

Instead of counting your blessings in this case, its better to renew your mind slowly and get out of it. Once your mind stops beliving the depression cannot be stopped, only then would you be able to turn your life around.

Always remember, hearing and seeing negative things is the water which hydrates and grows the depression seed. Stay away completely from anything negative for a week or 2. This includes people who always complain, tv shows/movies which promotes depression and the news.

You can start renewing yourself by doing things you always loved when you were young, meditating and going for a holiday. Invest in yourself by buying things you always loved and start loving yourself back by treating yourself frequently (e.g. Going for a pedicure session, going to a theme park and taking a ride which you never dared to take.)

The key to beating depression is to know and feel you love yourself more than to allow any saddness or sorrows waste your life.
