One thing that all socially aware Pakistani can agree on is that our media (particularly our shows and movies) is rife with social issues.
Most of our shows follow old tropes e.g women being subordinate/weak and men being dominant/aggressive. Even shows that become super popular and try to portray a progressive image e.g Zindagi Gulzar Hai are, in reality, portraying the same conservative values that our society represents.
What I fail to understand is the reason as to why we have not evolved? It is the 21st century: there's the Aurat March, there's that show about transgenders and their unfair treatment, there's those two celebrities kissing because they're married and they can. Why is the majority lagging behind then? Why are woman still being treated like objects in the majority of our shows? Why are the men screaming, overly conservative messes? Why is their no minority representation?

It's very sad to hear that. I feel that some countries takes a little more time to let these conservative views in the past. But, even though media takes a large role in influencing culture and behaviors, I think even in the most progressive cultures we can see hints of the old values.
Unfortunately, this is something that's rooted deep in the history. Take for example, pornography. It is the most misogynistic industry out there, and I would say it's really far from evolving, and it is a worldwide problem. I think fighting against all of this is a very hard task, but we have to keep trying as we can.

That is a sad reality of our drama and film industry. They didn't evolve rightfully with passage of time. A few days back i watched a video clip of Anwar Maqsood (A famous Pakistani Writer). He mentioned few of the reasons written above as the reason of him not writing. We can hope and contribute what we can at our ends.
